What does Andy Albright believe is crucial for the success of entrepreneurs at NC State, the state of North Carolina and the United States?
Andy knows these people need encouragement and opportunity. With that in mind, Andy and his wife, Jane donated $5 million to help both those things happen for young people with big dreams and big ambition.
North Carolina State University officially recognized the Albrights for their support the various areas of the university’s entrepreneurship programs, during a ceremony called “Entrepalooza” at Stafford Commons outside of Talley Hall in Raleigh, N.C. on Sept. 20, 2018 in front of a crowd of more than 1,500.
The Albrights, who were guests of honor at the announcement, made the pledge in November of 2016, and in honor of the gift NC State has named Innovation Hall after the Albrights.
Andy Albright is the president and CEO of National Agents Alliance, one of the country’s largest insurance marketing companies, which is based in Burlington. He is a 1986 graduate of NCSU’s College of Textiles, and is a member on the advisory board of NCSU’s Entrepreneurs.
“Andy and Jane’s generous gift bolsters both NC State Entrepreneurship and the General H. Hugh Shelton Leadership Center,” said Dr. Tom Miller, senior vice provost for academic outreach and entrepreneurship at NC State University. “We’re grateful for the impact Andy and Jane have made by supporting the development of NC State students as entrepreneurs and leaders. Gifts like the Albrights’ enable NC State to ‘Think and Do’ the extraordinary. The naming of Albright Innovation Hall will serve as a permanent reminder of their generosity and its impact.”
The Albrights’ gift supports all five of the Campaign’s priorities — leadership, experience, purpose, places and opportunity.
Albright, who serves on the Entrepreneurship Advisory Board, said he wants to lead by example and encourages others to support the university.
“I’m a businessman, and I’m always looking for the right places to invest in,” Albright said. “Outside of my own business, I see NC State as a place where I can do that and help sharp, young people who want to be the next wave of job creators in America. This is about our young people’s future, and the direction our country is headed in years from now.”
Additionally, the Albrights’ gift helped create the Shelton-Albright Entrepreneurial Leadership Youth Program, which is administered jointly through the Entrepreneurship Initiative and the Shelton Leadership Center. The program is aimed at high school students in rural N.C. counties.
“The Albright Entrepreneurs Village and the Shelton Leadership Center provide so many opportunities for our students to gain real-world experience building businesses and learning to be bold, values-based leaders,” Chancellor Randy Woodson says on NCSU’s website. “These are the innovators who will lead our state and nation in the decades to come.”
