A1 from the album Food for the Soul. 1977. Out of Baltimore. Disciples Records 7122.
The Singing Disciples of Baltimore are still singing today and found their greatest success during 1990s. Food for the Soul is their debut album, on what was probably their own label. It was located at 531 N. Howard St, near Lexington Market. They later recorded for Gospearl, one of the most prolific Baltimore gospel labels, though I think this record towers above the later material I’ve heard. From the back of the album: “We, The Singing Disciples, know that everything will be alright for Jesus said, (Matt. 5th chapter, 6th verse), ‘Blessed are They Which Do Hunger and Thirst After Righteousness: For They Shall Be Filled.’ This album is dedicated to the weak and the strong, the meek and the lonely and to all who need spiritual uplifting.” One of Baltimore’s more inspired albums.

I am always interested in hearing from members of groups and their families, as well as anyone who can help create tell the story of these groups. I've recently decided to incorporate as much biographical information as I can track down about the groups whose records I post, and I'm going back through former posts as time permits to add as much information as possible. Names and biographies of group members, other groups that they played in, dates of releases, home cities of groups, information about labels - really anything is useful. The men and women who gave glory with this great music deserve to be remembered better.
My intent is to give people a way to hear this forgotten and hard to access music. All songs on this channel are recorded from my own collection. I do not own the copyright to this material. If you'd prefer that I not share the music you made or own the copyright for, please contact me I'll promptly remove the video.
